Steeler (1981-1988) is a Heavy Metal band from Bochum, Germany.
ounded by guitarist Axel Rudi Pell (b. 27 June 1960) and singer Peter Burtz, Steeler was originally named Sinner. After adding Voker Krawczak (bass), Volker Jakel (drums) and Bertram Frewer (guitar) they signed to German indie label 'Earthshaker'. It wasn't long, however, before line-up changes occurred with Thomas Eder and Jan Yildiral replacing Frewer and Jakel before the completion of their debut eponymous album in 1984. The album set the mold for what would become their typical sound of Teutonic melodic Metal, as well as being a show place for Pell's guitar playing.
After their 1985 sophomore effort, Rulin' the Earth, Herve Ross replaced Krawczak. It, like all of their albums, was released only in Germany. Strike Back, the 1987 follow-up, followed a more commercial program, a program that continued right along with their final effort, Undercover Animal (1988), after which Pell busted the act up to go solo.
Footnote: Not to be confused with the US band of the same name.
