SteelerBiography/HistorySteeler (1981-1984): a Heavy Metal band from Nashville, Tennessee, USA. T he short-lived project, Steeler was basically a farm team for two to-be famous musicians by the names of Ron Keel (vocals) and Yngwie J. Malmsteen (guitar). Featuring fellow musicians Rik Fox (bass) and Mark Edwards (drums), their music was standard '80s rock/heavy metal, with Malmsteen's classical soloing already a bit out of place. Their debut self-titled album was one of the early 'Shrapnel' label releases, and one that helped establish the label as a place for heavy metal guitar heroes. After Steeler split, Ron Keel went on to form his own Keel project, while Malmsteen went on to his own fandom. Footnote: Not to be confused with the German band of the same name.
