Cauldron

Biography

Cauldron (2006-present): a Heavy Metal band from Toronto, Canada.

F

ormed in 2006 in Toronto, Canada Cauldron came about after the breakup of Goat Horn when guitarist Brandon Wars left to form Zuku. Ian Chains (Real Name: Ian Kilpatrick) took over the guitar slot when the band reformed as Cauldron, with Jason Decay (Real Name: Jason Junop) on vocals and bass, and Al Artillery (Real Name: Alan Chambers) on drums to play traditional style heavy metal.

Less than a year after formation the band released their debut EP titled Into the Cauldron under the German label 'New Iron Age/Iron Kodex Records'. Receiving positive reviews, the band toured across Canada. In 2008 the band signed with 'Earache Records', but founding drummer Al Artillery left to join label mates Toxic Holocaust, and the position was filled briefly by Steelrider (Real Name: Jason Mellish), the original drummer of Goat Horn. He was then replaced by ex-Kill Cheerleader/ex-Zuku/ex-Crystal Castles drummer Chris Rites (Real Name: Christopher Chartrand). The band's Debut Album Chained to the Nite was finally released in April 2009 with a tour of the UK with Wolf in support of the album. Cauldron sealed a futher victory with their song, Restless featured in a DC Shoes video of professional skateboarder Danny Way.

After the release of the debut album, Steel Rider left to be replaced by Chris Stephenson of Canadian band Aggressor (Canada). After spending much of the following year in preparation, Burning Fortune was released on the 14th of February 2011.

In December 2011, the band once again suffered from drummer issues when Chris Stephenson left to be replaced by the former one, Chris Rites, temporarily returning for the recording of Tomorrow's Lost, the band's third studio album, released on October 8, 2012 via 'Earache Records', with a follow-up EP, Moonlight Desires following in 2014; the current drummer, Myles Deck joining in July of 2012 who replaced both Adam Hamm and Adam Brown who joined earlier that same year.

In Ruin arrived in 2016 with New Gods (2018) following.

Cauldron is considered a part of the 'New Wave Of Traditional heavy metal (NWOTHM)', an ongoing movement that in recent years has seen the return of traditional sounding metal bands. The sub-genre name is not currently recognized by the Diskery system (preferring simply to classify such acts as 'Heavy Metal'), nonetheless the name is taken from the 'New wave of British heavy metal' in which the movement strongly identifies with. Other bands considered part of the movement include White Wizzard, Enforcer, Skull Fist and Sons of Lioth.
