Dominion Caligula

ate 1998 saw the forming of Dominion Caligula by Dominion (Real Name: Matti Mäkelä; guitar) and Emperor Magus Caligula (Real Name: Masse Broberg; vocals), both from the band Dark Funeral, as well as Dark Funeral ex-session drummer Robert Lundin (a.k.a. Gaahnfaust), along with Joakim Widfäldt (bass) and Lars Johansson (guitar) soon joining the party.

Dominion Caligula teamed up with Dark Funeral's producer Peter Tagtgren to record their debut album, A New Era Rises in 1999 (released in 2000). The album contained more then just blinding black metal; it mixed the introduction of melody, female vocal harmony and a concept story of the rise and fall of the Roman Empire all on one disc. It was performed through a style depicting a Narcissistic mind, giving the lyrics an almost pornographic approach. It received high acclaim in the metal underground and may one day serve as an inspiration to others. Only one album was completed and they've been silent since.
