SatanBIOGRAPHYSatan (1979-1984, 1985-1988, 2004, 2011-present): a NWOBHM band from Newcastle, UK. O riginally featuring Trevor Robinson (vocals), Russ Tippins (guitar), Steve Ramsey (guitar), Randy Reed (drums) and Graeme English (bass), Satanwas formed from the ashes of Blitzkrieg. In 1981 the band provided two tracks to the Roxcalibur compilation and financed their own single release of Kiss Of Death. But shortly after the single's release, Robinson left to be replaced by Ian Swift, who in turn was soon after replaced by Brian Ross (ex-Blitzkreig). Through their shows and the underground tape-trading network Satan gained a following for themselves until they attracted the attention of 'Roadrunner Records' for their debut album Court in the Act in 1983. The album featured thrash metal and speed metal arrangements and was well received but it, as well as the band as a whole, was a case of "deserved better" for both their name and their style (not popular in England during the height of the NWOBHM movement) failed to help them. It soon became clear that the album's sales were stifled by the band's name, Satan. With such a name one would expect them to be a black metal or a death metal act at the very least, so they changed their name to Blind Fury, and replaced Ross with Lou Taylor on vocals. Read All... ⏬ Blind Fury went on for a few years but didn't gain them much more fandom and, so, the act changed their name and some membership again to Pariah, a configuration that gained them more notoriety but ultimately didn't last either. Satan reformed to perform a one-off gig at Germany's Wacken Open Air in 2004 and finally reunited in 2011 to release Life Sentence (2013), Atom by Atom (2015) and Cruel Magic (2018) with Russ Tippins (guitars), Steve Ramsey (guitars), Graeme English (bass), Sean Taylor (drums) and Brian Ross (vocals). It wouldn't be until 2022 when Earth Infernal would be released, to be followed by Songs in Crimson (2024) two years later. Footnote: No relation to the American Band by the same name. Footnote: Graeme English and Steve Ramsey would be founding members of Skyclad. Sean Taylor would join Warrior UK for a while. Read Less... ⏫
