Daniel BandBIOGRAPHYDaniel Band (1979-present): a Christian Metal band from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. T he act Daniel Band was formed by Dan McGabe (vocals/bass) and Bill Findlay (guitar/keyboard) in 1979. The line-up was completed by Tony Rossi (vocals/guitar) and Matt Delduca (drums). Taking their inspiration from April Wine, Triumph and Y&T they specialized in melodic hard rock with extended keyboard and guitar parts. Unlike their peers in the christian metal (white metal) style, the religious messages played a subservient role to the high quality music on their initial 5 releases, On Rock (1982), Straight Ahead (1983), Run From The Darkness (1984), Rise Up (1986) and Running Out Of Time (1987). By the time of the third album, Run from the Darkness, however, they had morphed into a more heavy metal act stereotypical of the 1980's complete with spandex and studded dog collars, with a sound closer to AC/DC. But by 1987, the band seemed to have disappeared. Tony Rossi released a blues based album on 'R.E.X. Records' in 1990. Dan McCabe was involved with a band called Dreamer which released one album in 1991 titled Full Metal Racket, released a solo CD, and performed with his older children in a band called Nine-O-Five (a reference to the telephone number exchange that surrounds Toronto city proper). In 2000, Daniel Band returned as a unit to play at the Cornerstone Festival in Illinois. This event would be recorded for the Live at Cornerstone (2001). In November 2006, Daniel Band was featured as the opening group for Audio Adrenaline's farewell tour concert in Toronto. In October 2011, the band was awarded the GMA Canada Lifetime Achievement Award recognizing their pioneering influence on Christian rock. All of their releases were re-released over the next decade.
