ess And The Ancient Ones formed in Finland in 2010, led by their eponymous frontwoman Jess (just 'Jess'). They debuted in 2012 and over the course of their albums have firmly established their brand of psychedelic trippy occult rock, with the 2012 self-titled debut featuring Jess along side Thomas Corpse (Real Name: Tommi Hoffren; guitars), Fast Jake (Real Name: Jarkko Luomajoki; bass), Abraham (keyboards), Yussuf (drums), Thomas Fiend (Real Name: Tuomas Karhunen; guitars) and Von Stroh (Real Name: Antti Boman; guitars), carrying the most metallic weight with a NWOBHM influence. Following up with the Astral Sabbat EP (2013) and Second Psychedelic Coming: The Aquarius Tapes (2015) followed, the second seeing the first line-up change by lacking Von Stroh.

2017's The Horse And Other Weird Tales saw a music change of sorts by going full 60's style with Jess' vocals reminiscent of 60's legends such as Janis Joplin and Grace Slick. The album also saw the second line-up change by lacking Fiend. Vertigo (2021) followed.
