World War III

he World War III band came together when vocalist Mandy Lion and guitarist Tracy Grijalva were joined by former Dio members Jimmy Bain (bass) and Vinnie Appice (drums). Their debut release, World War III (1991), was an impressive display of traditional heavy metal featuring Grijalva.'s guitar work accompanied by the thunderous Bain/Appice attack, even if Lion's gruff vocals were preoccupied with his own sexual fantasies and exploits. The album, nonetheless, was met with limited success and the band dissolved sort of disappeared thereafter. Appice then returned to Dio before rejoining Grijalva in Dio. Lion would join Jake E. Lee's post-Bandlands group, Wicked Alliance. But World War III was not done, a whole slew of members came and went and it wouldn't be until 2002 with the release of When God Turned Away under the membership of Mandy Lion (vocals), Joe Floyd (guitars), Jimmy Bain (bass; R.I.P. 2016) and Sledge (drums) before the act would re-emerge, albeit for that single recording before disappearing into the netherworld again.
