Dungeon (1989-2005): a Power Metal band from Broken Hill, Australia.

rom humble beginnings in the Australian outback town of Broken Hill, Dungeon rose to become one of Australia's premier melodic power metal bands and one of Australia's largest metal bands of any style.

Dungeon was formed in 1989 by singer/guitarist/keyboardist "Lord" Tim Dungeon, who then recruited Ian Debono (drums), Eddie Trezise (bass), Jason Hansen (guitars), Randall Hocking (bass) and Carolyn Boon (keyboards). The line-up, as it happens, didn't last for by the next year Jamie Baldwin (bass), Darryl Riess (drums) and Dale Fletcher (guitar) had replaced Debonoand Hockingwhile the former was added to the line-up. Boone, Baldwin and Fletcher would soon be gone for the third line change in 1991 when Dale Corney took over the blank guitar slot. Andrew Brody assumed the drums in 1994.

Dungeon would debut with their 1993 demo EP Changing Moods (discounting their 1992 demo titled simply Demo). By the follow-up, Demolition (1996; with Tyrone McMaster on drums), Dungeon had gained an international recognition after signing to 'TDK Core' and augmented the membership with "Lord" Tim returning to recruit Dale Corney (guitar), Steve Mikulic (guitars), George Smith (bass; replaced soon after by Justin Sayers) and Wayne Harris (drums)along with guest drummers Virgil Donati, Jim Yannieh and guest backing vocalist Pru Haggarty. The album sold in excess of 5,000 in Japan within the first 6 weeks, with the follow-up, Resurrection (1999), on 'Warhead' making it to its 3rd pressing.

Moving to Sydney, Dungeon would continue to grow on its success with appearances at large festivals with such acts as Yngwie J. Malmsteen, Edguy and Nevermore, Doro, Mayhem and Destruction as the years progressed. Now drawing their influences from bands like Iron Maiden, Helloween, Judas Priest and Blind Guardian with the new membership of Steve "Stevo" Moore on drums, Brendon "Dakk" McDonald (bass), Stu Marshall (guitar), along with "Lord" Tim's guitaring and soaring operatic vocals, along with guest guitarist Dale Corney returning to release the eagerly anticipated follow-up to the Resurrection album, entitled A Rise to Power released by 'Metal Warriors' in Australia in August 2002, shortly followed by a high profile national headlining tour; footage from this tour was used to create video clips for tracks Insanity's Fall and Stormchaser.

More touring followed, this time to Japan in May 2003, coinciding with the release of the aforementioned album A Rise to Power. The album contained rare, unreleased material and a video clip for the track The Other Side. The tour also led to filming for a live DVD. A switch to 'Limb Music' saw the A Rise to Power re-released outside of their homes in 2003 along with One Step Beyond (2004) and the Resurrection (2004) re-release.

In September 2005, after a run of shows with wrestler Chris Jericho's band Fozzy, Dungeon issued a press release on their website announcing that due to the departure of Stu Marshall and recent recruit Glenn Williams (bass), Grose decided to put an end to the band. They performed a final show at the Gaelic Club in Surry Hills, Sydney on 11 December 2005. Former members, Justin Sayers, Dakk McDonald and Stephen Mikulic made guest appearances during the band's almost two-hour set.

Although that was the final live performance, a final album would emerge in the form of The Final Chapter released posthumously in 2006.
