Isengard

Biography

Isengard (1989-1995): a Black Metal band from Oslo, Norway.

F

olk infused Isengard was a black metal solo project from Fenriz (Real Name: Gylve Nagell; of Darkthrone/ex-(D.H.G., Cadaver Inc., Eibon, Storm, Neptune Towers, Satyricon, Ulver, Aura Noir, Red Harbvest, Nattefrost, Thorns, Cadaver); vocals/guitars/bass/drums/keyboards) who hired session members Bjorn Dencker (a.k.a. Aldrahn; ex-(Zyklon-B, D.H.G., Darkthrone, Old Man's Child, Thorns, Dimmu Borgir); vocals) and Yusuf Parvaz (a.k.a. Mr. Fixit, Vicotnik; vocals) in 1995. Just like Darkthrone, the sound quality was deliberately bad. Over their tenure they released Spectres Over Gorgoroth demo (1989), Horizons demo (1991), Vanderen demo (1993), their compilation Vinterskugge (1994), and debut album Høstmørke (1995). Traditional Doom Cult EP (2016) and Vårjevndøgn (2020) would be released posthumously.

Footnote: The name Isengard comes from the book The Lord of the Rings. Isengard's logo was taken from the Lord of the Rings "Middle-earth Role Playing" (MERP) tabletop role-playing game. The original illustration represents a vampire.
Footnote: Between 1986-1989 the project was originally called Pilgrim Sands to perform doom metal.
