Coroner

Biography

Coroner (1983-1996, 2010-): a Thrash Metal band from Zurich, Switzerland.

S

tarted by Ron Royce (vocals/bass), Tommy T. Baron (guitar/vocals) and Marquis Marky Edelmann (drums), originally as a bunch of roadies with Celtic Frost's Tom G Warrior, who sang on their Death Cult demo. Two years after starting, Coroner got a record deal with 'Noise' and subsequently released their debut, R.I.P. in 1987. Their second set, Punishment Of Decadence (1988), featured a thrash metal version of Jimi Hendrix's Purple Haze. A year later, they issued another album of what many considered second rate thrash metal in the form of No More Color. Their fourth effort, Mental Votex (1991) also failed to help them by failing on almost every front, not to mention the closing track being a mangled version of the The Beatles' I Want You (She's So Heavy).

In 1993 Grin was released showing even more advancement in their style and continued quality output. The band would break up before their final effort, Coroner, was released in 1995, with the half "best of..." compilation and remixes, The Best Of Coroner following two years later; '70's TV hero Quncy was apparently never called for the cause of death was clear. The band's original demo recording has since appeared in CD format, (most likely not legally) titled Death Cult (featuring Tom Warrior on guest vocals).
