Pentagram (1986-present) is a Progressive Metal band from Turkey.

T

he Turkish version of Pentagram toiled away in their native land under the membership of Hakan Utangaç (guitar), Murat Net (guitar), Tarkan Gözübüyük (bass) and Cenk Ünnü (drums). Their first release, the self-titled Pentagram, came to be in 1990 as a mostly instrumental affair (no vocalist is listed on it), but by 1992 and the release of Trail Blazer that problem was fixed when Ogün Sanlisoy took over the vocal duties and Demir Demirkan took over from Net. By Anatolia (1997), Murat Ilkan took over vocals. Anatolia proved to be a turning point for the act for it saw them gain international acclaim as a mature, polished and traditional Metal act, much in the styles of Queensryche, Alice In Chains and Megadeth with Middle-Eastern melodies thrown in for good measures. Their live effort arrived in the form of Popçular Disari the next year. But they received worldwide coverage again with Unspoken (2001) being released under their new name Mezarkabul, chosen to avoid conflicts with the American band of the same name, at least internationally, but the follow-up, Bir (2002), was released under the Pentagram moniker again, but only in Turkey. Onur Murabek took over from Demirkan on Unspoken but he was replaced with Metin Türkcan by the release of Bir soon after.
