Crack Up

Biography

Crack Up (1993-2004): a Death Metal band from Hünxe, Germany.

A

rising from Rotting Misery who released only a single demo during their tenure (1989-1993), Crack Up's style was out of the norm for what one would expect of a typical German heavy metal band for they had nothing to do with melodic power metal. Their earlier work showed them as more of a death metal like band with a more mid-paced power metal tempo rather than the speedy old-school death metal style. On the later material, they adopted a so-called "death rock" (a.k.a. "death n' roll") style but even here they lacked the harsh death metal vocals to be almost be considered just a hard rock band, as their music combined a bit of Motorhead with stoner rock groove and punkish loose playing, with the rest remaining as good old hard rock. Unfortunately the band received little notoriety outside of their homeland and announced their breakup in November of 2003.

Their debut Blood is Life (1996) would feature the membership of Dirk Oschatz (guitars/vocals), Tim Schnetgöke (vocals/bass), Frank Schlinkert (drums/vocals) and Helvin Pour (guitars) as did the follow-up, From the Ground (1997) before Torben Voight took over guitars & vocals on Heads will Roll (1998) and Dead End Run (2000) from Oschatzdrums would be assumed by Andi Nohlen for Buttoxin' Bloom (2002).
