Widowmaker

Biography

Widowmaker (1975-1977): a Heavy Metal band from London, UK.

S

uper group Widowmaker's formation featured Steve Ellis (ex-Love Affair; vocals), Abel Bender (ex-Mott the Hoople; guitar), Bob Daisley (ex-Chicken Shack; bass), Paul Nicholls (ex-Lindisfarne; drums) and Huw Lloyd Langton (guitar) who signed to 'Jet Records' and went on tour with The Who. When I Met You, Aint Telling You Nothin' and Pin A Rose On Me were the tracks of note on their self-titled debut that failed to make the grade. Ellis and Langton left a year later with the latter rejoining Hawkwind and John Butler drafted as replacement for Too Late To Cry (1977) follow up on 'United Artists'. The album just made into the US top 200 but the youth of the day had moved on to the punk revolution that was sweeping the music world, and Widowmaker simply couldn't compete and folded a few months later. Daisley would go on to become a member of several bands including Rainbow and Ozzy Osbourne.

Footnote: Not related to the US band founded by ex-Twisted Sister man Dee Snider.
