Burst (1993-2009): a Progressive Metal band from Kristinehamn, Sweden.
urst was almost completely unknown until Origo was released in 2005. However, this Swedish act featuring Niklas Lundgren (guitars), Ronnie Källback (vocals), Jesper Liveröd (bass/vocals) and Patrik Hultin (drums/vocals) had been around for sometime with several lesser-known releases starting with their self-titled EP Burst in 1995, Shadowcaster EP (1996), Two-Faced (1997), Conquest: Writhe (2000) and In Coveting Ways EP (2002) would follow.
Mats Johansson would assume guitars between 1997 and 1999, while Jonas Rydberg would take the role in 1999. Robert Reinholdz would be added in 1999 for the other guitars spot as well as take over from Källback on vocals, a role that had been vacant for two years previous.
It would be their 'Relapse' debut Prey on Life in 2003 that allowed Burst a glimpse of public interest at large. Origo (2005), the follow-up, could be loosely described as a cross between Mastodon and Isis, and except for a few 'clean' moments, the vocals are hardcore-influenced. Over-all, Origo was seen as a dynamic album, complex but focused while managing to be diverse and cohesive at the same time. The 2008 follow-up, Lazarus Bird proved to be moving further along those musical lines. Sadly, just as the act was beginning to get both popular and critical notice they called it quits in December of 2009.
