Blackstar

Biography/History

(AISE: Redirected from Blackstar Rising)

Blackstar (1995-1998): a Death Metal band from Liverpool, UK.

A

fter the collapse of Carcass, Blackstar was formed featuring ex-Carcass men Jeff Walker (bass/vocals), Carlo Regadas (guitar) and Ken Owen (drums), with Mark Griffiths (ex-Cathedral/ex-Year Zero) filling in the second guitar slot. Although the project had intended more, only one album was completed, titled Barbed Wire Soul in 1997, an album that continued in the vein of Carcass' Swansong with less of the grindcore influences. Contrary to the band's knowledge, the album was released under the band name Blackstar Rising, presumably for legal reasons, in some areas. Their new career was cut short, however, when Owen was diagnosed with a brain tumor during recordings for the second album. He has since recovered but the band had already folded and the second album was scrapped.
