Zephyr

Biography/History

Zephyr (1968-1972, 1982): a Hard Rock band from Boulder, Colorado, USA.

H

ard rock band Zephyr formed in 1969 in Boulder, Colorado by Tommy Bolin (guitar), John Faris (keyboards), David Givens (bass), Robbie Chamberlin (drums) and Candy Givens (vocals). Their debut release, the self-titled Zephyr (often referred to as the bathtub album), on 'ABC/Probe' reached 48 on the Billboard 200 chart on March 14, 1970. Zephyr made an appearance on American Bandstand previously on January 31, 1970 lip syncing to Cross the River. Although the charismatic performances by Givens were the focal point for the band, the flashy guitar work of Bolin is what the band is best remembered for.

After the Going Back To Colorado (1971) recording, Bolin left and was replaced by Jock Bartley for Sunset Ride (1972). Soon after this recording, the band split but would reform briefly, under a modified line-up for the release of Zephyr Heartbeat (1982) after which, they split for good.
