Drain STH

Biography

Drain STH (1993-2000): a Grunge band from Stockholm, Sweden.

T

he "STH" standing for "Stockholm", and presumably inserted to avoid a name conflict with the American punk style band called Drain that featured members of Butthole Surfers), Drain STH came across as a different version of Alice In Chains featuring similar crooning vocal harmonies but the instrumental sounding more like 90's heavier heavy metal. Drain STH was one of the few all-female heavy metal bands during the time.

After their debut EP, Serve The Shame (1995), Horror Wrestling (1997; edited and re-released in 1998) proved to be a fine debut album, and even featuring a re-made grunge version of Motorhead's Ace Of Spades on the re-release. Featuring the membership of Maria Sjoholm (vocals), Flavia Canel (guitar), Anna Kjellberg (bass) and Martina Axen (drums/backing vocals) Drain STH would also release a follow-up in the form of Freaks Of Nature (1999) before breaking up in 2000.

After the split the ladies went on to other lives including Sjoholm who married Black Sabbath's own Tony Iommi and three other members moving on to other bands, one being Anotherday (featuring Canel) and another being SuperFix (featuring Kjellberg and Axen, now a lead vocalist).
