3D House Of Beef

3D House Of Beef (1992-2001): a Doom Metal band from Alameda, California, USA.

n a dingy Seattle night 3D House Of Beef was founded as an answer to the "overindulgent, overwrought Seattle scene", as their bumf put it. It wasn't until they moved to Alameda, a suburb of San Francisco, that their line-up solidified into Mike Howton (drums), Drew Payne (bass), Nial McGaughey (guitar/vocals/samples; previously featured in a recent 'Mercury/Polygram' signees Nihil, and live shows with Skrew, Nevermore, Kreator, Napalm Death, Tad, Enthroned and many other hard sounding bands). They began recording their music as a way to describe their unique experimental sound that could not be described with words. Indeed, their music was very experimental, almost noise-like. The resulting recordings would be 3D House of Beef (1996), Similar Attack Pattern (1998), Dog EP (2001) and Low Cycle (2001). Similar Attack Pattern ,an album that contained mostly remixed tracks from their past demo works of Crowning on a Ferris Wheel demo (1994), Lazgrodin/Zosaval demo (1995) and Buster/Slip Connect single (1995) saw the band receiving international distribution. In 2001 they split.

Todd Loomis (drums; 1999-2000)
- plus many live members.

Footnote: The name of the band was taken from an SCTV skit "Dr. Tongue's 3D House of Beef". SCTV was Canada's equivalent to Saturday Night Live and was on TV from 1976-1984 and produced by famed comedy outfit Second City out of Toronto, Canada. The show gave notoriety to many famous comedians including John Candy, Joe Flaherty, Eugene Levy, Andrea Martin, Catherine O'Hara, Rick Moranis, Harold Ramis, and Dave Thomas. Later in the program's tenure, it gained popularity in the US as well. Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas most famously created a spin-off program and then movie (Strange Brew) based on the SCTV skit "Great White North" featuring their stage personas of beer drunk brothers Bob & Doug Mackenzie.

Featured here in Diskery's "Special Projects" sections is the animated logo used by Emperor Multimedia Corp. for the release of their CD-ROM projects, that logo was also inspired by the one used by SCTV.
