Mr. Big

Mr. Big (1988-2002, 2009-2018): a Glam Metal band from Los Angeles, California, USA.

merican glam metal band Mr. Big formed in Los Angeles, California, in 1988 originally composed of Eric Martin (lead vocals), Paul Gilbert (guitar/backing vocals), Billy Sheehan (bass/backing vocals), and Pat Torpey (drums/percussion/backing vocals). Though primarily a heavy metal band, they became known for softer hits marked by strong vocals and vocal harmonies, including To Be with You and Just Take My Heart. The band adopted its name from a song by Free that they would cover on their 1993 album Bump Ahead, an album that followed Mr. Big (1989) and Lean into It (1991).

Despite internal conflicts and changing music trends, Mr. Big would carry on to release Hey Man (1996) before Gilbert departed the band in 1999, with Richie Kotzen brought as a guitarist and vocalist. The band released two more albums with this line-up, Get Over It (1999) and Actual Size (2001) before breaking up in 2002.

Following requests from fans, Mr. Big reunited with its original line-up in 2009 to tour in Japan. In 2010, Mr. Big released What If... During the recording of the follow-up album, The Stories We Could Tell (2014), Torpey was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and participated only marginally as a touring support; his last album with the band Defying Gravity (2017). He died the following year. The band went on hiatus after.
