Vast Minority
T
he members of Vast Minority first came together in Sterling Park, Virginia at a rehearsal studio and engaged in a spontaneous jam session. They came together as strangers applying for a position in a band to be manufactured by a Washington, D.C. artist management company who was combing the D.C. area for the best and the brightest in unsigned musicians in 1997 and chose what they thought were the best of the lot. Within a couple of weeks 10 tracks were laid down in a sort of 'alternative rock' style mixed with progressive metal with a melodic twist (actually sounding more like melodic thrash metal) under the influence of Suicidal Tendencies, Bad Brains, Queensryche, Led Zeppelin, Rush, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd and King Chrimson and made up of J. Fiala (ex-Spunge; vocals), Keith Zulka (ex-Mystic Angel; guitar/vocals), Joe Gallagher (ex-Third Rail; drums) and Tim Klix (ex-Chapel Perilous; bass/vocals).
Playing in clubs in their local area, not to mention a stint in New York's CBGB's, they would soon enter the studio for their first recording as a complete unit in the form of the self-titled Vast Minority (1993) recorded in just four days. Trip for Thought (1995) would follow featuring the addition of Duane Harris as additional guitars (lead & rhythm) and backing vocals.
After three years they split up to pursue other interests but got back together in August of 2002 for new material as demonstrated on their 18 track demo, The Demo CD (2002). It didn't last and the act split again only to reform in 2015.
