I Hate Myself

his Emo band existed erratically and refused to follow music conventions by releasing a set of EPs without song titles with tracks considered long by conventional measures. The track lyrics, described odd situations that vocalist Jim Marburger would elaborate on within the song's lyrics with minimum lyrics available in the liner notes. This has added to the speculation that I Hate Myself were poking fun at emo/screamo bands' tendency to favor drawn-out and often nonsensical song titles that usually do not reflect any themes or lyrics within the song. After a string of vinyl-only releases in the 1990s, the band split up. Posthumously, the band agreed to a CD release, a collection of their full length 10 Songs (1990) with one extra track, their contribution to a split 7" with Strikeforce Diablo.

The Marburger brothers went on to form Burnman, to emphasize the louder side of I Hate Myself's sound. That band dissolved soon after releasing their debut LP. Drummer Jon Marburger went on to join Gunmoll.

I Hate Myself would periodically re-unite for occasional track/single releases. A 15-song CD, collecting all the remaining tracks not found on the Ten Songs CD release, has been planned since early 2005, but has not yet materialized.

Throughout the act's tenure, the line-up has been remarkably stable with brothers Jim Marburger (lead vocals, guitars), Jon Marburger (drums, percussion, backing vocals, bass (in 3 tracks)) and Steve Jin (bass, backing vocals).
