Econoline Crush

Biography

Econoline Crush (1992-2001, 2007-present): a Grunge band from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

S

tarting in 1992 Econoline Crush formed when Trevor Hurst (vocals) moved to Vancouver, Canada from Seattle, USA after he answering an ad for a vocalist the Seattle newspaper, The Rocket. The ad was placed by Chris Meyers and Tom Ferris (keyboards), two musicians who had been seeking a vocalist for several years. The threesome began writing demos and, with the support of David Hawkes, a DJ on local Vancouver AM radio station, Coast 1040, the new act, now dubbed Econoline Crush, began to receive regular airplay. In 1993, after Ferris and Meyers left to leave Hurst to run the operation alone, the band signed a record deal with 'EMI Music Canada', after playing only 26 shows.

In 1994, the band released the Purge EP which gave them a nomination for a Juno Award in Canada. One year later, they followed it with the full-length album, Affliction under the membership of Daniel Yaremko (bass), Trevor Hurst (vocals), Robbie Morfitt (guitar), Gregg Leask (percussion/drums) and Rhys Fulber (keyboards/programming). Canadian and European tours followed also featuring Young Gods, Die Krupps, and Waltari, culminating in an appearance at the POP KOMM Festival in Köln, Germany with Filter.

The Devil You Know (1997) followed, along with a tour with Kiss, Foo Fighters, Green Day and The Tea Party; the album achieved platinum status in Canada. The membership had changed to Trevor Hurst (vocals), Robbie Morfitt (guitars), Ziggy Sigmund (guitars), Robert Wagner (drums/percussion), Don Binns (bass/acoustic guitar), Ken Fleming (live bass) and Statik (programming).

Brand New History, under the membership of Trevor Hurst (vocals), Ziggy (guitar), Johnny Haro (drums) and Dan Yaremko (bass/additional programming), received mixed reviews, despite containing moderate commercial success with the singles You Don't Know What It's Like and Make It Right. Due to the record's lack-luster response the act split. But in 2008, the act would reform with the release of Ignite with the membership of Trevor Hurst (vocals), Kai Markus (guitar), Scott Whalen (bass) and Brent Fitz (drums).

In April 2010 Robert Morfitt returned to guitar; he would not stay, however. Dayvid Swart (drums) would join in 2017, along with Graham Tuson (guitar/keys/background vocals). Troy Zak took over bass and background vocals in 2019.

Dan Garrison joined on guitar in 2020.

On March 8, 2022, Sigmund unexpectedly passed away. His death was revealed on Econoline Crush's official social media outlets.

June 2022 would see Econoline Crush perform at the massive Burlington Sound of Music festival.
