David WilcoxBiographyDavid Wilcox (1949-present): a Musician from Montreal, Quebec, Canada. B orn in Montreal, in 1949, Blues musician David Wilcox drew inspiration from Elvis Presley at the age of six. In 1970, Wilcox's career came to note when he replaced Amos Garrett in Ian and Sylvia Tyson's band, Great Speckled Bird; as well as playing backup for acts such as Anne Murray, Carl Perkins, and Charlie Rich. In 1973, after two records, Wilcox left to go solo. His first band, David Wilcox and the Teddy Bears, Wilcox was seen as a flashy character sporting an oversized waxed moustache, a baggy suit completed with a flower in his lapel. The debut album, Out of the Woods (1977) produced three top hits with Do the Bearcat, Bad Apple, and That Hypnotizin' Boogie. In 1982, Wilcox signed with 'Capitol Records' to re-release the debut and receive his first album to reach gold status. He achieved a repeat gold with the follow-up, My Eyes Keep Me in Trouble (1983), featuring the hits Downtown Came Uptown and Riverboat Fantasy. Bad Reputation (1984) followed. A year later he released The Best of David Wilcox, his first compilation album, that also boasted the debut of two more hits Blood Money and When You Mistreat Her. Breakfast at the Circus (1987) featured the hits Layin' Pipe and The Song He Never Wrote. The album saw Wilcox move away from his past raw live-in-the-studio approach, to a more produced synthesizer and drum program modern rock sound. Read All... ⏬ The Natural Edge (1989) followed.
