EchobrainBiographyEchobrain (2000-2005): a Heavy Metal band from USA. I n 2000 Echobrain was formed by ex-Metallica bassist Jason Newsted, Brian Sagrafena (drums) and Dylan Donkin (vocals/guitar) who had been in contact with one another since the late-1990s after they met at a Super Bowl party at Newsted's home in 1995. On a road trip to Baja, Mexico, Sagrafena and Donkin recorded some rough demos that, eventually caught Newsted's attention back home, who then offered to help out on bass guitar and assist the songwriting. Chris Scianni (guitar) and David Borla (guitar) would soon later join. Newstead would eventually end off financing the entire band project, later claiming that he lost a great deal of money doing so. His activities with his work in Echobrain ultimately also led to his bitter departure from Metallica after over 14 years with the group. In 2002, Echobrain was sued by Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas funk rock band Echo Drain for trademark infringement; the court judged in Echobrain's favor as the two names were not near enough to warrant an infringement. In 2004 Andrew Gomez (guitar/bass/piano) and brother Adam Donkin (bass) would join to replace Scianni and Borla (who left in 2002), with Newstead himself finally having enough in 2004. The band broke up a year later (well... officially went on long-term hiatus) leaving the catalog of: Echobrain EP (2002), Strange Enjoyment EP (2002) and Glean on New Year's Day 2004.
