J aron Evil, founder of Lashing Ether started out holding a Jazz diploma from Malaspina University College and was tutored by Brian Stovell, trainer for Diana Krall. At age 21, he released his debut as Lashing Ether titled Decompositions (2001), a punk rock opus of undulating backdrops, rhythmic beats, haunting lyrics and industrial guitar riffs. Jaron Evil as Lashing Ether's debut was mostly a solo effort featuring him on all instruments. The album lyrics depicted images of vampires in downtown shopping malls and streets, dark apocalyptic visions and a general view of life from the dark side point of view; a friend of his once described it as "Ambient gothic punk rock Metal". The album was like Marilyn Manson and Ministry collaborated on a recording project. By 2002 he had created over 100 compositions with a second album, The Spider Consumes Itself in the works.
