Finger Eleven

Finger Eleven (1990-present): a Hard Rock band from Burlington, Ontario, Canada.

arning a devoted Canadian following, Finger Eleven a part of the so-called "post-grunge" movement of "alternative metal" style of rock. Under their original name of Rainbow Butt Monkeys and featuring the membership of: Scott Anderson (vocals), Rick Jackett (guitar), James Black (guitar), Sean Anderson (bass) and Rob Gommerman (drums), they would release their first album, Letters From Chutney (1995), with money won from a rock band search contest on a radio station 97.7 CHTZ (Hits) FM out of near by St. Catharines, Ontario.

In 1996 they changed their name to Finger Eleven as their musical style began to mature and they wanted to be taken more seriously; the name coming from an earlier version of the song Thin Spirits from what would be their new debut album Tip. Under their new name that album would arrive on 'Mercury Records' in 1997 and re-released by 'Wind-Up Records' in the United States in 1998.

Following the release of Tip, drummer Rob Gommerman left the band and was replaced by Rich Beddoe. The Greyest of Blue Skies followed in 2000. Finger Eleven's 2003 release, self-titled album Finger Eleven, was a commercial success, spawning the single One Thing which reached #16 in the US. The band also recorded the song Slow Chemical for WWE superstar Kane (which also appeared on the soundtrack of The Punisher), and the song Sad Exchange for 2003's Daredevil movie. An "Elektra" mix of the song Thousand Mile Wish was featured in the credits of the 2005 movie Elektra. The song Stay In Shadow made an appearance as one of the music tracks to the video game, "Burnout 3", and "Good Times" in SSX 3. Three of their songs were also featured in the GameCube game "1080° Avalanche". One short-lived TV series, Life as We Know It, also had the One Thing track at the end of of the sixth episode, "Natural Disasters".

Their songs First Time, Stay And Drown and Drag You Down were then featured on the Dragon Ball Z Movies Lord Slug and Revenge of Cooler.

Finger Eleven's March 6, 2007 release of Them vs. You vs. Me featured the track Paralyzer as its opener, a track which has gained them hit status in North America even before its official release. The second single was Falling On, a track also gaining notoriety. The band played Paralyzer live on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on 14 March 2007. Them vs. You vs. Me was certified Gold in the US in March 2008 and won the 2008 Juno Award for rock Album of the Year. The band performed live with the Calgary Youth Orchestra at that show; the performance was broadcast on national television.

In December 2008, Finger Eleven toured Europe supporting Kid Rock including one date at London Hammersmith Apollo.

Also, in 2007 and 2008, their only two (so far) compilation albums appeared under the names of Us-vs-Then-vs-Now and iTunes Originals respectively.

Life Turns Electric, the next album, was released on October 5, 2010. That same year, iTunes Live from Montreal, their only live album, emerged.

Towards the end of the year, Finger Eleven parted ways with longtime drummer Rich Beddoe. In November 2014, the band announced via their Facebook page that drums on the upcoming album were to be done by Chris Powell.

On April 25, 2015, Finger Eleven announced an open casting call for the filming of the video for the new album's first single, Wolves and Doors.

Finger Eleven released their seventh album Five Crooked Lines July 31, 2015 with the Fall of the Hammer support tour following.

June 18, 2017 would have seen them perform, again, in their hometown of Burlington, Ontario, Canada at the famed Sound of Music free outdoor music festival but a sudden torrential rainstorm saw their show cancelled. They had previously been there on March 23 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release of Tip along with dates in St. Catharines and Toronto. That rained-out show would take place that Labor Day as the closing act for the Burlington RibFest. The following year they'd re-appear at the Sound of Music festival but using their original name Rainbow Butt Monkeys. In 2022 they'd return to that event to headline but under the Finger Eleven moniker.
