Biography

Equinox (1984-1988): a Progressive Metal band from Brandenton, Florida, USA.

F

ormed in early spring of 1984 in Bradenton, Florida, Equinox wrote about 30 songs and practiced in various friends living rooms for the first year until they found a studio up for sale. The name Equinox was brought to the table by Skully after having used it already for one of his first bands in Virginia 1974. After moving in to the new studio, Equinox practiced and played open house nights almost every weekend. The party's were extreme and Equinox became a local weekend party favorite in Bradenton, Florida. The band only played five public shows during its four year span. The Youth Center on Anna Maria Island, Palmetto Fair Grounds in Palmetto, The Beach Lounge on Bradenton Beach, The Animal House in Sarasota, and The Armory in Sarasota. Equinox recorded 2 cassette only song collections/albums that were never officially released. For a brief 2 month period Equinox sound man Dennis "Dr. Samurai" jumped in on keyboards to replace Scott Sebring which had quit the band and moved to Los Angeles. Barry (a.k.a. "Skully" and Dennis Ristow (a.k.a. Dr. Samurai went on to form Seasons of the Wolf in October 1988; 5 months after Equinox officially split up. Skully's younger brother Wes just out of high school joined SOTW as lead vocalist. Bassist Clay Yeagley and drummer Dwayne Brier (R.I.P.) also joined up ....And so, the first line-up of Seasons of the Wolf was complete on October 31st 1988.

During it's short time Equinox featured: Barry "Skully" Waddell (Lead vocals/guitar (original founding member)), Terry Schambers (Lead guitar/backing vocals (original founding member)), Mike Gianillo (bass (original founding member)), Gordon Bragg (drums (1984 - 1985 original founding member)), Scott Sebring (keyboards 1985 to 1987)), Dan Maxwell (drums 1985 to 1988)), Day Wayne (keyboards 1984 - 1985)), Dennis Ristow (Sound Engineer/Keyboards 1985 - 1988)).


Not to be confused with the band of the same name from Mt. Plymouth, Florida.
