The Creatures

The Creatures (1981-2005): a Punk band from London, UK.

nglish act The Creatures formed in 1981 with vocalist Siouxsie Sioux and drummer Budgie of Siouxsie and the Banshees. Their first recording, the EP Wild Things arrived in 1981. They would follow this with four more studio albums in the form of Feast (1983), Boomerang (1989), Anima Animus (1999) and Hái! (2003).

With Feast, the band dabbled in exotica, while on Boomerang, they added a Spanish style to their music, boasting elements of flamenco, blues and jazz. In the late 1990s, they developed a more urban sound. For their final effort, they returned to their roots with a nod to Japanese minimalism. The act disbanded in 2005.

Sioux and Budgie created the act while rehearsing for Banshees' Juju album and discovered by accident that the combination of just voice and drums suited the track But Not Them. A studio session was organized with the aim of recording five songs. This project was released in the form of their Wild Things EP.

When Siouxsie and the Banshees ended in 1996, The Creatures had already begun composing new material. At the same time, the long-out-of-print Wild Things EP and Feast album were remastered and re-released through the A Bestiary Of compilation of 1997, their next album followed two years later, their first in a decade. The album would be their first independent effort, for shortly before, Siouxsie and Budgie created their own label, 'Sioux Records', and became an independent act.
