Eucharist

Biography/History

Eucharist (1989-1991, 1991-1993, 1993-1994, 1996-1998, 2015-present): a Death Metal band from Veddige, Sweden.

F

ounded in Veddige, a little city about 40 km from Gothenburg, Sweden sometime around 1989, Eucharist's Greeting Immortality demo, released in 1992, became a classic in the heavy metal underground. The same year, Eucharist re-released the Greeting Immortality 7" on 'Obscure Plasma' under the line-up Tobias Gustafsson (bass), Daniel Erlandsson (drums/lyrics), Markus Johnsson (guitars/vocals) and Thomas Einarsson (guitars). The following year they recorded The View for the 'Peaceville' compilation Deaf Metal Sampler. But just as they were planning their future the band suddenly split up!

Soon after their split, 'Wrong Again Records' asked them to re-unite and sign a deal, seeing as there was suddenly interest - the band obliged. A Velvet Creation, their debut album featuring the original line-up arrived soon after in 1993, but the cover was misprinted in the wrong color. In the summer of 1994, two tracks, Wounded And Alone and The Predictable End, were recorded specially for the W.A.R. Compilation Vol.1 (1995) compilation album.

It wasn't long, however, before Eucharist split up again and some members started playing in other bands. Daniel Erlandsson (drums) went on to play drums on two tracks on In Flames' EP Subterranean. In 1996, Marcus Johnsson (guitar/vocals) and Daniel Erlandsson started working with Eucharist again along with bassist Henrik Meijner, and they were offered another deal by 'WAR Music' (a new label risen from the ashes of 'Wrong Again Records') and Mirrorworlds (1997) was the result with the line-up of Martin Karlsson (bass), Daniel Erlandsson (drums) and Markus Johnsson (guitars/vocals). But then again, Eucharist split up soon after.

In 2001, A Velvet Creation was re-released on 'Regain Records'. This time re-mastered, and with the two songs from the W.A.R Compilation session as bonus-tracks. The cover was also printed in the right color this time, but Markus Johnsson's name was misprinted as Marcus Johansson. Mirrorworlds would follow in 1997. The band would not record again until 2022 with the release of I Am The Void , featuring Johnsson with Simon Schilling taking over drums from Erlandsson, who would be seen in Arch Enemy and Armageddon.

Footnote: Matti Almsenius (guitar), Thomas Einarsson (guitar), Tobias Gustafsson (bass), Martin Karlsson (bass) have been past members of the act, with Kenneth Granberg (oboe) guest performing on Mirrorworlds.
Footnote: Not to be confused with the Australian band of the same name.
