Surface Underground

Biography

Surface Underground (2000-present): a Progressive Metal band from Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

F

rom Toronto, Canada, Surface Underground started as a writing project for George E. Vee (guitar) and John Pacheco (drums) that eventually lead to Sylvia Niewinski (vocals) joining to take the band to the next step by recording the 3-song demo. This brought the band to record what is now known as the self-produced Surface Underground CD. The project was completed with the addition of Brad Whetham (bass).

As a group they came to build on a strong driving rhythm section, pulled together by melodic guitar hooks, showcasing a powerful yet sensitive vocal styling to complete a tight group with unique musical chemistry that was rich in ambient textures and dark moods, the music travels through a broad spectrum of human nature, realism and hope, including a remake of Mad World, by Tears for Fears.

Their influences ranged from Deftones, A Perfect Circle, Tool, Van Halen, Iron Maiden, and Black Sabbath but comparisons have been made to the likes of Evanescence, Rush, Led Zeppelin, and a heavier version of Blondie. Throughout their careers each member has worked with renowned artists and producers, including Canada's "First Lady" of guitar Liona Boyd, punk legend Art Bergman, Juno nominee guitarist Pavlo, and producer Arnold Lanni.
