Technocracy

Biography/History

Technocracy (2000-2003): a Thrash Metal band from Hayward, California, USA.

W

hen the membership of Steve Machado (vocals/programming), Phil Demmel (guitar), Chris Addison (bass), Shack (keyboards) and Mark Hernandez (drums) came together to form Technocracy it was the latest project for guitarist Phil Demmel, who had previously been in Torque, and before that in Vio-lence. Despite not being intended as a purely thrash act, Demmel's thrash roots were clearly heard on Technocracy's self-titled, self-released 2001 debut album. Their sound came across as a fusion of Thrash heavy riffing with melodic and forceful vocals, and subtle electronic effects. But just as they were pouring the concrete for the foundation of their building of the future, they called it quits in April of 2003, citing burnout and a desire to move on. Demmel briefly reunited with Vio-lence and later joined Machine Head.
