Biography

Sorcerer (1988-1992, 2010-present): a Doom Metal band from Stockholm, Sweden.

C

lassic European style epic doom metal/gothic was the style Sorcerer plays in the pattern of early Candlemass.

After two demo, the band would release a compilation of these demos in the form of a self-titled (1995) album featuring the membership of Johnny Hagel (bass), Richard Evensand (ex-Dog Faced Gods/ex-Ebony Tears/ex-Soilwork; drums), Mats Liedholm (guitars), Peter Furulid (guitars), Anders Engberg (vocals) and Tommy Karlsson (drums (tracks 9-13)) that was released three years after the band had split up by John Perez of Solitude Aeturnus through his label 'Brainticket Records'. Johnny Hagel went on to Tiamat, and later Sundown, while vocalist Anders Engberg later joined power metal band Lion's Share. Heathens from the North, another compilation, followed in 2004 on the 'Eat Metal' label.

Their first studio album proper in the form of In the Shadow of the Inverted Cross and the EP Black would both arrive in 2015under the modified membership of Robert Iversen (drums), Kristian Niemann (guitars) and Peter Hallgren (guitars) to re-introduce the band after their reformation in 2010.

By 2017 the follow-up, The Crowning of the Fire King would be without Iversen. Justin Biggs took bass for Lamenting of the Innocent and the The Quarantine Sessions (2020 both). The Reverence EP (2021) and Reign of the Reaper (2023) followed; Stefan Norgren took drums in 2023.
