Biography

Ophthalamia (1989-1998): a Black Metal band from Stockholm, Sweden.

O

perated by a guitarist known only as It (Real Name: Tony Särkkä), a person who had played in several other Swedish bands in much the same doom metal/black metal blend of sound. Lyrically, their albums follow a sort of theme around the fantasy world of Ophthalamia, as created by It. With the membership of It, Jon Nodtveidt (a.k.a. Shadow; ex-Dissection; vocals), Robert Ivarsson (a.k.a. Mourning; bass) and Benny Larsson (a.k.a. Winter; ex-Edge of Sanity/ex-Pan-Thy-Monium/ex-Godsend) they would unleash A Journey In Darkness (1994) before Erik Hagstedt (a.k.a. Legion/of Marduk) took over from Shadow while Mourning was gone and Emil Nodtveidt (a.k.a. Night) moved into the extra guitar slot for Via Dolorosa (1995). To Elishia (1997) was a compilation disc.

Winter and Legion were then gone and replaced with Ole Ã-hman (a.k.a. Bone/ex-Dissection, ex-Rabbit's Carrot, ex-Swordmaster, ex-Deathstars) and Jim Berger (a.k.a. All) and Mikael Schelin (a.k.a. Mist) moving in on bass for A Long Journey (1998). Their last effort, Dominion (1998), was influenced by the story of MacBeth.
