rehley's Comet was formed in 1984 by former Kiss guitarist Ace Frehley, who initially hired the services of Anton Fig (drums/percussion), John Regan (bass/drums/backing vocals) and Richie Scarlet (rhythm guitar/vocals). Frehley had previously done a solo album in 1978 which was the most successful of the Kiss solo albums, and laid the groundwork for his solo career. Fast forward to 1982, now out of Kiss, and after having kicked his drug habits, Frehley would return with his own Frehley's Comet band and eponymous debut in 1987. Any releases had to be delayed until at least 1985 due to a contractual arrangement that saw him retain a one quarter share in Kiss that would force him to surrender those shares if he violated it.
The debut album continued on as a natural progression from Kiss and received a US 40 for the effort, but the follow-up, Second Sighting, assumed a more popish AOR style in 1988 that fared less well at only 81 on the same charts under the membership of Ace Frehley (lead guitar/lead vocals), John Regan (bass guitar/drums/backing vocals), Tod Howarth (rhythm guitar/lead vocals/keyboards) and Billy Ward (drums/percussion).
His last presentation, 1989's Trouble Walkin', Frehley dropped the Frehley's Comet name and put out a pure "Ace Frehley" solo album. It was just that, his last, for it failed to push the US 100. The band seemed to have no trouble walking at all, for they abandoned him halfway through the tour.
Frehley then put his solo career on hold to rejoin Kiss in 1996 and resume his solo career with Richie Scarlet back in his touring band. 2017 and 2018 saw Frehley, Tod Howarth (rhythm guitar/keyboards/piano/lead vocals; previously a member 1986-1988), Regan and Fig back together for reunions.
