Helstar (1982-present) is a Power Metal band from Houston, Texas, USA.
lthough stardom eluded them, Hellstar remained a fan favorite throughout their career. Classified as Thrash, but actually more a power metal in style. Under the original membership of James Rivera (vocals), Larry Barragan (guitar), Tom Rogers (guitar), Paul Medina (bass) and Hector Pavon (drums) their debut album, Burning Star (1984) would arrive. Two-thirds of the act would leave by the time the follow-up, Remnants Of War (1986), with Robert Trevino, Jerry Abarca andRene Luna replacing Tom Rogers, Paul Medina and Hector Pavon respectively. Andre Corbin replaced Trevino and Frank Ferreira replaced Luna for the A Distant Thunder set in 1988 and Nosferatu (1989). But the membership was in flux again with only Rivera remaining to recruit Aaron Garza (guitar), D. Michael Heald (guitar), Jerry Abarca (bass) and Russel DeLeon (drums) for the eventual release of Multiples Of Black in 1995 that was followed by the Twas The Night Of A Helish X-Mas (2000), an album recorded on Christmas night during the Nosferatu support tour and featuring the membership of the time.
In 2004, Rivera, in addition to being a member of Seven Witches, would form a new band, Distant Thunder, in reference to the early Helstar album. A new album, Welcome The End folowed in 2004. Indeed, this period saw the band undergo several reformations, primarily organized by James Rivera and Jerry Abarca to release mostly compilation albums like.
