Danger Danger

Danger Danger (1988-1992, 1995-present) is a Glam Metal band from Queens, New York, New York, USA.

D

anger Danger was started in 1987 by ex-Hotshot members Mike Pont (vocals), Bruno Ravel (bass; also ex-Michael Bolton) and Steve West (drums). In time the line-up recruited Ted Poley (ex-Prophet to replace the departing Mike Pont; vocals), Kasey Smith (keyboards) and Steve West (drums), with Andy Timmons (guitar) replacing Tony "Bruno" Rey who in turn was a replacement for Al Pitrelli during the recording of their 1989 self-titled debut.

The self-titled debut album, recorded on the 'CBS' subsidiary 'Imagine', hit the US 88 mostly on the weight of the track gone single, Bang Bang, that made 49 US on its own.

Sounding much like Motley Crue and White Lion, Danger Danger's sound was obsolete by the time their follow-up Screw It! emerged in 1991. Screw It! spawned two other hits with Monkey Business and I Still Think About You. Although not popular at home, the British seemed to like it, sending those tracks as singles up their charts.

Danger Danger had a brief split but returned in form with Canadian Paul Lane for vocals replacing Poley, who had been fired. This change was not an easy one because of lawsuits launched by Poley that held up the completion of the next album, Cockroach. Despite attempting to re-record the album with the new vocalist, 'Epic', the label, decided to cut their losses and scrap it. The band soon after parted ways with the label. Timmons soon also after left the band to pursue a solo career.

Ravel and West formed their own label, 'Low Dice Records' to start working on a new album with Laine. The resulting album Dawn (1995) boasted a more somber and introspective tone. Partly marketed through the band's fan club, newsletter and website, it also featured bassist Scott Brown, who had previously played with Paul Laine as a solo artist. Former band members Andy Timmons and Kasey Smith returned to contribute to the completion of that follow-up, Four The Hard Way (1997).

After some negotiations with 'Epic', Cockroach (2001) would finally be released featuring two discs, representing both versions of the original album: one with Laine on vocals and the other with Poley. In 2002 the song Naughty Naughty Christmas would be featured in the Tim Allen movie The Santa Clause 2.

In 2008, rock and roll comic C.C. Banana recorded a song titled, Ted Poley, released on the album Kiss My Ankh, a parody of the Kiss song Unholy and inspired by the story of Poley's first encounter with Kiss lead singer Paul Stanley.

2009 would see the independent label 'Frontiers Records' release Revolve, featuring the return of Poley as lead singer, along with new guitarist Rob Marcello.

The classic lineup of Poley, Ravel, West, Timmons and Kasey Smith reunited in 2014 for a series of touring dates.
