Bad Brains

Bad Brains (1978-1988, 1989-present) is a Hard Rock band from Washington, District of Columbia, USA.

his all Afro-American team led by H.R. (Real Name: Paul Hudson; vocals), Dr. Know (Real Name: Gary Wayne Miller; guitar/keyboards), Darryl Aaron Jenifer (bass/vocals) and Earl Hudson (drums/vocals) had previously been together in a Jazz Fusion outfit that influenced their hardcore metal/punk styles of today.  After re-locating to New York , their 45 releases of Pay To Cum and Big Takeover proved to be important releases in the movement but at the time went unnoticed due to their inability to expose the world to the music they contain on a UK tour when they weredenied work permits to support The Damned in that country. It didn't matter, however, for their self-titled album followed in 1982. Their Rock For Light follow-up in 1983 produced by Ric Ocasek (of The Cars), featured one side Hardcore and the other Reggae. Neither album charted significantly. I Against I (1987) and Live, their 1988 live set was released by 'S.S.T.' before they broke up.

They would soon after return to switch to 'Caroline' for the follow-up. That follow-up came in the form of Quickness in 1989 where-by the membership had changed to Chuck Moseley (ex-Faith No More; vocals) and Mackie Jayson (drums).

Spirit Electri would only be released in the US by 'S.S.T.' in 1989 to little notice. Israel Joseph (Real Name: Dexter Pinto) took over on vocals for the Rise release in 1993, one more break-up would see H.R. and Earl Hudson back for God Of Love in 1995 with the group finally quitting for good shortly after.
