Heavy Load (1976-1983, 1985, 1987, 2017-present) is a Power Metal band from Stockholm, Sweden.
tarting out as a trio, by brothers Ragne Wahlquist (vocals/guitar) and Styrbjörn Wahlquist (vocals/drums) with Michael Backlund (bass) in 1976, Heavy Load recorded their debut-album Full Speed At High Level in 1977 (released 1978), now with Dan Molén on bass. Soon after, however, their label 'Heavy Sound Records', went bankrupt. Unable to find a suitable deal, the Wahlquist brothers formed their own 'Thunderload Records'.
At the end of the 1970's several members would assume the bass and guitar spot, culminating in ex-Highbrow guitarist Eddy Malm along with Torbjörn Ragnesjö replacing the departing Dan Molén to release the EP Metal Conquest (1981) and the follow-up full-length albums, Death Or Glory (1982) and Stronger Than Evil (1983) before splitting up.
The act would attempt to regroup with Andreas Fritz on bass to record the Monsters Of The Night single (1985) before splitting again soon after.
In 1987, the brothers attempted a third kick of the can to record an album together that was essentially a compilation of the previous two with a bonus 7" added on, titled Stronger Than Evil / Death Or Glory, with Paul Gray (bass; ex-The Damned/ex-U.F.O.) and Patrik Karlsson (guitar) but the resulting album was never released.
The compilation Metal Angels in Leather would arrive posthumously in 1991.
