Martyr (1994-present) is a Death Metal band from Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, Canada.
artyr was created in 1994 by brothers François (bass/vocals) and Daniel Mongrain (guitar/vocals), and Stephane Belanger (drums), and in September 1995 their promotional tape, Ostrogoth, arrived. In May 1997, Francois Richard had replaced Belanger on drums and they began the production of their debut album, Hopeless Hopes, an album that arrived later that same year, and in September of that year, drummer Patrice Hamelin joined the band after François Richard's departure. Pier-Luc Lampron followed his leaving in January of 2002 who in turn left to study philosophy at University. His departure hit hard as he was with Martyr since nearly the beginning, but a new member was recruited in the form of Martin Carbonneau.
Luc Lemay (of Gorguts) stepped in on guest vocals for the follow-up release Warp Zone (Europe Edition) on 'Sekhmet Records' in 2002, but later the same year they switched to Quebec's heavy metal label 'Skyscraper Music' for the release of Extracting The Core, a live effort featuring Francois Richard on the drums from back when he was in the band. The act was relatively quiet until Feeding the Abscess (2006) arrived.
