Shunt

Biography

Shunt (1995-present): a Rock band from Carleton Place, Ontario, Canada.

T

aking their name from the inspiration of poet Robert Frost, Shunt put their music onto the market with the mentoring of Tool singer Maynard James Keenan. Their frustrations helped to give them the claim of the title of "hardest working band in Ottawa". But Shunt didn't start off easily; in 1995, Sinister Sam was said to be the band to watch for the future; they even managed play a gig with fellow Canadian act Voivod. But a name dispute with a San Jose California band forced them to select a new name, and in 1996 they were re-issued as Shunt. Shortly later, in 2000, they would publish their self financed, self-titled debut release under the management of Scott Cameron (guitar), Shane Brouse (bass), Raphael Storto (drums) and Bob Cave (vocals).

Footnote: Not to be confused with the band from France under the same name that released one single titled, Barbarian Storm/Another Life.
