Dissection

Nödtveidt, took the initiative to form Dissection in the autumn of 1989 with the original members (except Johansson who rejoined for touring purposes from local Death-Thrashers Nosferatu for handling the rhythm guitar as a live-show session member). Dissection did their first live appearance in October 1990 together with, among others, Entombed.

As a form of debut, Dissection had a promising start with The Grief Prophesy and the 7" single Into Infinite Obscurity (1991 both) with a second demo emerging shortly later. In connection with this release, Dissection also printed their first T-shirts with the EP-cover artwork by "Necrolord" on the front and their infamous flaming trident cross with eyes (in red) on the back. The Into Infinite Obscurity EP became highly acclaimed in the underground scene and was quickly sold out.

April 1991, a few days after the suicide of Mayhem singer Pelle 'Dead', Dissection made their tribute to him by playing the Mayhem song The Freezing Moon in his honor at a show in Falkenberg, Sweden (and making an unofficial special edition of the The Grief Prophecy demo with a cover drawn by 'Dead' himself).

In the summer of 1991 Nodtveidt formed the Black /death metal metal metal side-project Satanized that existed for about half a year. Satanized recorded one rehearsal tape and a single gig together. Also spending a lot of time in Oslo, Norway, Nödtveidt joined the Black Circle, or the so-called "Black Metal Mafia", as the media later named it. This movement that had its branches in Norway and Sweden existed only for a few years and was officially dissolved around 1993.

'No Fashion' picked them up to release their debut album The Somberlain (1994), the attack boosted by the presence of John Zwetsloot (guitar). Zwetsloot was replaced with Johan Norman, however, by the time their third effort Storm of the Light's Bane (1996) was released.

Nodtveidt was sentenced to 10 years at Maximum security for the murder of an Algerian gay man in 1997, but this didn't slow them in the slightest while his case moved through the courts and the media declared him a 'Satanic rock Star', 1997's The Past Is Alive arrived as a collection of various Dissection rarities from the early 1990s, including material from Nodtveidt's earlier side project Satanized. Their epitaph came with the sentencing of Nodtveidt and a friend in the summer of 1997 shortly after the release of the mini set Where Dead Angels Lie (1996). Ohman went on to form Reaper. The Past is Alive (Early Mischief), a compilation of their demos would follow posthumously in 1997 with Storm Of.../Where Dead... re-release with bonus DVD coming in 2002.

Nodtveidt reformed Dissection in 2004 when he was released from prison. The act would feature, for a short while, the infamous Faust. But sxettled on Sethlans (a.k.a. Set Teitan; ex-Aborym/ex-Annaal/ex-Nathrakh/ex-Bloodtime; guitar), Tomas Asklund (ex-Dark Funeral/ex-Infernal/ex-Dawn/ex-Necromicon; drums; replacement for ex-Emperor man Bård G. Eithun (a.k.a. Faust) now a friend of Nodtveidt), Brice Leclercq (ex-Nightrage; bass). The only recordings that came of this marriage was Live Legacy (2004) and Reinkaos (2006) before the act called it quits again; the US tour being cancelled shortly before when Nödtveidt was denied an entry visa to the country. The Somberlain was re-release and re-mastered by 'Black Lodge Records' in 2004. A set of live albums followed in 2009 and 2010 respectively.

In August 2006, frontman Jon Nödtveidt committed suicide holding a Satanic grimoire in his hands.
