Six Feet UnderBiographySix Feet Under (1993-present): a Death Metal band from Tampa, Florida, USA. S tarting as a side project for Cannibal Corpse vocalist Chris Barnes and Obituary guitarist Allen West, Six Feet Under would see two other original members, Terry Butler (ex-Death; bass) and Greg Gall (drums), complete the line-up soon after. It became a full-time venture following Barnes' well-publicized departure from Cannibal Corpse. Not to be confused with a much older Swedish act of the same name, this Six Feet Under featured basic heads-down and old school Death metal, with Barnes returning to the gore-related lyrics of his prior band. Their 1995 debut, Haunted, received acclaim, and put them on the collective metal map. Other equally capable but less known recordings would follow, including Alive and Dead EP (1996), Warpath (1997; which saw Steve Swanson replace West after its publication), Maximum Violence (1999), the covers album Graveyard Classics (2000), True Carnage (2001), the double CD live set Double Dead (2002) and Bringer of Blood (2003). On the next album, 13, Chris Barnes reportedly entered "a vision" from smoking large quantities of marijuana and meditating while writing the lyrics. A Decade in the Grave followed on October 28, 2005 as a five-disc box set. The first two discs were 'best-of' material, while the third was a rarities collection; the fourth was a live recording featuring band's first 1995 concerts back. The set included a live DVD from 2005. November 2005 saw Chris Barnes joining the Finnish Death metal band Torture Killer as lead vocalist for a side project. Commandment (2007) and Death Rituals (2008) would follow; 2008 also seeing Barnes parting ways with Torture Killer. Graveyard Classics 3 would arrive in January 2010. 2011 would see Butler leave to join Obituary; drummer Greg Gall would soon follow. Later that same year Rob Arnold and Matt Devries (both ex-Chimaira) joined Six Feet Under. However, soon later, in 2012, Devries left to join Fear Factory and was replaced by ex-Brain Drill 7-string bassist, Jeff Hughell. Undead (2012) and Unborn (2013) followed. In 2013 guitarist Ola Englund and drummer Kevin Talley departed; Marco Pitruzzella took over on drums. After Crypt of the Devil (2015) longtime guitarist Steve Swanson left the band and was replaced by Cannabis Corpse member Ray Suhy. Graveyard Classics IV: The Number of the Priest (2016) followed as another covers album featuring varied artists. Torment (2017) and the EP Unburied compilation (2018) followed. Nightmares of the Decomposed (2020) saw Ray Suhy joined on guitars along with Jack Owen on guitars and songwriting. Read Less... ⏫ Dashboard for Six Feet Under
