SarcofagusBiographySarcofagus (1977-1982, 2000-2020): a Heavy Metal band from Helsinki, Finland. F innish band Sarcofagus was one of the first heavy metal bands from Finland and the first to perform lyrics in Finnish. Although they started in 1977 they didn't release anything commercial until they reformed in 1982 under the name Kimmo Kuusniemi Band for a single year to release Moottorilinnut before reverting back to record under the present name to release Cycle of Life (1980) under the membership of Esa Kotilainen (keyboards), Juha Kiminki (bass), Kimmo Kuusniemi (guitars), Ari-Pekka Roitto (drums) and Hannu Leidén (vocals). Envoy of Death (1980) featured new member Jukka Homi taking vocals, while Motorbirds (2004) featured massive line-up changes in the form of Kirka Babitzin (R.I.P. 2007; vocals (tracks 3, 6)), Jukka Ritari (vocals (tracks 2, 5, 7)), Urpo "Upi" Sorvali (R.I.P. 1989; drums) and Muska Babitzin (vocals (tracks 1, 4, 8)) along side Kiminki, Kotilainen and Kuusniemi. Tanja Katinka Karttunen (vocals/lyrics) would be the new member of note for Core Values (2007) with the band now back to its core membership with Kiminki, Kuusniemi and Kotilainen incorporating Hammond B3, Minimoog, Mellotron and Accordion as new instruments. Read All... ⏬ After the line album and compilation, Back from the Valley of the Kings would emerge in 2013 under the expanded membership of Jukka Jokikokko (bass (tracks 14-16)), Ville Hanhisuanto (drums (tracks 14-16)), Pete Ahonen(vocals (tracks 14-16)), Juha Kiminki (bass (tracks 1-13)), Anssi Nykänen (drums (tracks 1-13)), Esa Kotilainen (keyboards (tracks 1-13)), Tanja Katinka Karttunen (vocals (tracks 1-13)), Jukka Ritari (vocals (tracks 1-13)) and Kimmo Kuusniemi (guitars, (tracks 14-16)). Down to the membership of Kimmo Kuusniemi (guitars), Juha Kiminki (bass), Kai "Sandy" Jansson(drums), Esa Kotilainen (keyboards) and Hannu Leidén (vocals), the Absence of Light EP would arrive in 2021. The EP would be released posthumously since the band split in December of 2020. After Sarcofagus broke up, Kimmo Kuusniemi, the band's founder, started to work as a professional filmmaker, and has produced and directed hundreds of international films from TV Commercials to Music Videos, including Vader and Madonna, as well as movie soundtracks.
