Spastik ChildrenBiographySpastik Children (1985-1990): a Heavy Metal band from San Francisco, California, USA. T he Spastik Children was an American heavy metal band, a supergroup of sorts, that existed between 1985 and 1990. The founding members were Fred Cotton (vocals), James McDaniel (guitar) and Rich "Jumbo" Sielert (drums). Sielert was later replaced by James Hetfield, frontman of Metallica. Other members of the band included Cliff Burton (bass/vocals), Kirk Hammett (bass), and later Jason Newsted (bass/vocals), also all members of Metallica. Jim Martin, former guitarist for Faith No More, also performed a few times. As a hobby band, Spastik Children primarily offered the members of Metallica in their early days the opportunity to play with other musicians and to devote themselves to less serious lyrics and pieces. The band, which rarely or never rehearsed before their performances, did not release an album during their existence, only recording a demo in 1986 and three spin off singles. It was strictly a live band, performing in small clubs and bars around Northern California. The act also featured Paul Baloff (vocals; ex-Exodus/Piranha; R.I.P. 2002) and Doug Piercy (guitar; ex-Heathen). Dashboard for Spastik Children
