I

n 1997 Abhorrence started as Brazil's answer to the popular American death metal. Abhorrence was founded by Rangel Arroyo (vocals/guitar), brother Fernando Arroyo (drums) and Kleber Varnier (bass). Abhorrence started recording almost right away, for in 1999 they released the Ascension demo; it would later be re-released as a CD5 by 'Wild Rags Records'.

In 1999 Abhorrence also recorded their Triumph In Blasphemy featuring 3 new tracks, some of which appear on 'Relapse Records' Brazilian Assault compilation. With the release of Triumph In Blasphemy, they attracted the interest of 'Evil Vengeance Records', and their debut full-length album, Evoking The Abomination, was the result. This album featured artwork by Joe Petagnos and Desmond Sia. Several split CDs followed.
