MetaliumBiographyMetalium (1998-2011, 2021): a Power Metal band from Hamburg, Germany. F ormed by Lars Ratz (ex-Zed Yago), Metalium was originally a mislabeled as a side project featuring original members Chris Caffery (of Savatage) and Mike Terrana (of Yngwie J. Malmsteen). Fact of the matter is Metalium was not a side-project at all but a fully actualized metal band, with a style set firmly in the European metal mold, with a nod to a more American sound in the style of Iced Earth on the early recordings like Millennium Metal - Chapter One (1999) with the line-up of Henning basse (vocals), Matthias Lange (guitar), Lars Ratz (bass), Chris Caffery (guitar) and Mike Terrana (drums). The album would be one of a total of eight concept albums telling the fictional sci-fi story of Michael, a metal fan, who drinks a magic potion and becomes the invincible mythical warrior "Metalian". The success of the first album ensured another in the form of State of Triumph - Chapter Two (2000) with Terrana replaced by Mark Cross and Caffery replaced by Jack Frost leaned more toward the German style of Gamma Ray. With continued flawless execution the band was breaking new ground with a sound that remained popular in Europe. Read All... ⏬ With Michael Ehre replacing Cross and Frost gone, they would continue on to release Hero-Nation - Chapter Three (2002) and As One - Chapter Four (2004). Demons of Insanity - Chapter Five (2005), Nothing to Undo - Chapter Six (2007), Incubus - Chapter Seven (2008) and Grounded - Chapter Eight (2009) would follow before the band called it quits in 2011.
