GENRES DATABASESpoken WordSpoken word refers to any recording where the primary sound is a human (or humans) speaking in any language on any subject with no musical accompaniment. Examples of recordings in this category could include (but not limited to): Political speeches, narrated books and interviews. Before the advent of the internet, spoken word albums were common and ranged on any sort of subject. Such recordings were often distributed by public libraries for the visually impaired as well. A special record speed format of 16RPM was developed for this kind of recording, but spoken word recordings were available in all formats. The oldest recording known to exist is spoken word; it is a gramophone record featuring a voice counting off the hours of the clock, recorded more than 120 years ago. File record #: 25 | |
