Galactic Cowboys (1990-2000): a Hard Rock band from Houston, Texas, USA.
Founded by vocalist Ben Huggins and guitarist Dane Sonnier from the ashes of their former act, Awful Truth, who eventually teamed up with bassist Monty Colvin and drummer Alan Doss (the latter two being ex-Aweful Truth). After signing to 'Geffen' in 1991, Galactic Cowboys would release their acclaimed eponymous debut. Galactic Cowboys were similar in style to King's X, and sharing a similar spiritual/Christian outlook, but mixing more Blues and melodic grunge. But critical praise was not at hand with their follow-up, Space In Your Face (1993). Indeed, 'Geffen' was fed up and sent them packing, reducing them to 'Metal Blade' with Machine Flesh (1996) and Wally Farakas replacing Sonnier. It's two successors in the form of Feel The Rage (1996), an album that featured covers of I Want You originally by Kiss, and Paul McCartney & Wings' Junior's Farm, along with the follow-up, The Horse That Bud Bought (1997), a fine mesh of post-grunge Metallized pop that was competent enough but but lacked the "je ne c'est quois" that made their live performances so compelling. The album was also the debut for Jerry Gaskill (ex-King's X) replacing Doss. By the turn of the century, the Galactic Cowboys were once again making the rounds making more decidedly hard rock albums in the form of 1998's At The End Of The Day and Let It Go (2000). The band then split afterward amicably with the members pursuing other interests.
