D-ZL (1997-present): a Metalcore band from LeRoy, New York, USA.
Based in LeRoy, New York, a town in Western New York State, D-ZL (pronounced "DEEZEL") worked hard to make a name for themselves in the Rochester and Buffalo areas. They came together in the spring of 1997 with Dan Clor (vocals/guitar), James Jackson "James D." (drums/backing vocals), Ron Kalser (bass) at the helm. Their goal was to create music which not everyone would accept but no one could ignore. They described themselves as a "Heavy Groove Band". Their premier 1999 release, Feel This, mixed hardcore metal with deep bass tone and funk. The listener got a hint of dance and hip-hop with each earful. It was a slickly produced piece of work that was of a style all the rage in the late 1990s. They were picked up by 'Emperor Multimedia's Diskery' distribution system [when it sold music] for international exposure. There is no doubt these guys were dedicated and were rewarded two years later with a record contract by 'Warner'.
